When Safety matters, trust in preventive testing

Aerospace components must perform flawlessly under the most demanding conditions. Whether made from high-strength steel, advanced ceramics, or other engineered materials, they combine low weight, exceptional wear resistance, dimensional precision, and uncompromising reliability.

Every component matters. Even the smallest material or manufacturing defect can affect performance and safety. Ensuring 100% defect-free, consistently high-quality components is therefore essential throughout aerospace production.
Testing at aerospace level is the world of ibg when it comes to structural defects, cracks and grinder burn of electrically conductive metals, plus ceramic and plastic surfaces.

Typical Aerospace Parts and Components for ibg NDT's Automated Testing:

  • Bearings and bearing components: Bearing rings/races, balls, rollers and similar precision parts, particularly for detecting surface defects, grinding defects or material mix
  • Gears and transmission components: Gear wheels, gear teeth, splines and precision-ground surfaces
  • Engine shafts: Turbine/compressor shafts, accessory shafts and other highly stressed rotating parts
  • Turbine and compressor components: Discs, blades, blade roots/dovetails and related metallic components
  • Fasteners: Bolts, screws, pins and other safety-critical metallic fasteners. Eddy current is also well established for fastener-related hole inspection
  • Landing-gear components: Shafts, axles, pins and other highly loaded machine components
  • Actuator and hydraulic components: Rods, pistons, sleeves and precision-machined surfaces where cracks or material condition are critical
  • Structural metallic parts: Machined aluminum, titanium or steel fittings and forgings, including holes and highly stressed transition areas
  • Wheels and wheel components: Particularly machined surfaces and other fatigue-critical regions.
  • Raw/semi-finished material and machined blanks: Verify alloy/material condition and heat treatment before the component proceeds further into production

Preventive Eddy Current Testing and iPMFT: The ibg NDT Technology Concept for Maximum Safety

ibg NDT Technology is the inventor of automated, preventive testing with eddy current. Unlike other manufacturers, ibg's instrumentation not only detects the pre-defined master-defect(s), but all deviations from OK. Thus, ibg prevents even unknown or unexpected flaws from passing the test.

We use eddy current as our core physics and have expanded into laser and optical reflection over the years.

What makes ibg the technology leader in component testing is the unique design of our test-electronics and software. This enables us to apply 8 frequencies plus two harmonics simultaneously in the case of structure testing, each with own thresholds. For crack, grinder burn and light/laser-based surface detection, we apply 30 bandpass filters with thresholds by filter. We call this approach iPMFT (preventive multi-frequency/filter testing by ibg).
